In short, the answer is no. It was terrible. That’s the whole review.
Just kidding, of course. But honestly I can’t even believe I’m reviewing this. What a weird world we’re in.

But A Minecraft Movie was bad. One of the worst movies I’ve ever watched, but the experience itself in theaters was at least fun. But not exactly because of the money, moreso the memes. I laughed with my friend, we laughed with strangers, we quoted the memes to each other. It was a cool experience. Was it an Avengers Endgame level experience? Definitely not. But I think A Minecraft movie has done something no other movie has done in that it had so many memes about it before it came out, so once it came out everyone wanted to go see it, and now it’s on track to make a billion dollars. But that’s really the only thing it’s done well.
Do I think it deserves a billion dollars? Definitely not. It even beat Super Mario Bros. in revenue for a video game movie opening weekend, which was a pretty good movie! But the memes are there and some people seem to really enjoy it. I just wish they did more with it; They could’ve made such a good movie of the best selling game of all time, but instead we got this monstrosity.
Anyways, one major thing I also don’t like that I want to talk about is how people just say that “it’s for kids” and that gives Hollywood an excuse to make stupid movies for the consumer. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Inside Out 2, The Wild Robot, Paddington in Peru, these are pretty recent “kids” movies that came out but they are amazing. Passing off a movie as ridiculous as A Minecraft Movie, as watchable for kids, quite frankly, is at the least condescending and at the most insulting. And it’s not even suitable for kids! I mean Jack Black and Jason Mamoa 69 in mid air halfway through the movie. This is a terrible movie in pretty much every respect. It’s not even funny in itself, it’s only funny because everything has been so overblown on social media about how goofy it is, so I’d say, save your money and don’t go see it. More for the principal than anything. If you really want to watch it then stream it at home with friends, it’ll still be a fun experience.
My couch rating: 1/10
