My name is Shari Schindel, PsyD. I am a New York State licensed Clinical Psychologist and I am also a patient living for most of my life with chronic physical illness. Since I was a young child, I have had unexplainable physical symptoms, sometimes very debilitating. No one was ever able to diagnose them until recently, and even now some of it is still a mystery.
For over thirty years, I lived as full a life as I was able given the constraints or freedoms afforded me by how my body was feeling on any given day, week, month, or year. I have never given up hope that I will one day be set free into vibrant health and be able to move through the world on a daily basis without fearing that my symptoms will take me down. But there is also the real probability that I will live the rest of my life riding the ebb and flow of illness and recovery that I always have.
While my blogs will often speak to the challenging aspects of living with chronic illness, they will also reflect my continued hope and belief that vibrant health could one day be possible. I want to put as much of my thoughts and daily life into positive energy and move toward my body’s highest level of optimal health each day (even if that just means triumphantly getting out of bed that day). Living with chronic illness can be a very lonely place. It is my hope that this forum is a place for people to come for validation, practical advice, humor, support, and inspiration to live our best life possible with the challenges we face.
